Any detector that triggers sends a signal down that cable, and every other unit in the house sounds with it. It is the most robust way to build an interlinked system. There is no radio link to check, no pairing to maintain and nothing that depends on signal strength through a stone wall. The cable either connects the detectors or it does not, and the test on completion proves which. The design work is the same as any alarm installation: optical smoke detectors on escape routes and landings, heat detectors in kitchens and garages where cooking fumes would trigger a smoke detector daily, and carbon monoxide detectors wherever there is a fuel-burning appliance.
